A graduate of Farmington High School, Alan Redner was deployed to Southeast Asia during the Vietnam War, received a Bronze Star for his service, and rose to the rank of captain with the Michigan National Guard. Employed with Estate Motors in Birmingham and later with BMW, Redner was also active with the Association of Suburban People. He died from AIDS-related complications at age 44.

Northville native Mark Jerome moved to Washington after graduating high school and worked as a waiter in numerous D.C. restaurants. He died from AIDS-related complications at age 28.

Wyandotte resident Gay Whiteside formed a chapter of the Daughters of Bilitis in Detroit in 1971. She was also active with the Gay Radio Collective, was a longtime member of the Metropolitan Community Church of Detroit, and volunteered on the Affirmations telephone hotline.

Raised in Tacoma, Washington, Barry Joseph “Biejay” Brewitt served in the Army Medical Corps, attended the University of Detroit and Wayne State University, and worked for Westin Hotels. He was a founder and longtime officer in the early Detroit leather group Tribe. He died from AIDS-related complications at age 50.

Detroiter Armando Lomibao worked as a microbiology specialist for area hospitals and was active in the BTI Bowling League and the Metro Detroit Softball League. He died from AIDS-related complications at age 42.

Oak Park resident Mike Love was a quality control supervisor at the Dearborn Engine plant at Ford. He died from AIDS-related complications at age 52.

Attorney and Traverse City native Elaine Milliken devoted her life to human rights, women’s issues, and the environment. She was the daughter of former Michigan governor William Milliken.

A graduate of the University of Michigan-Flint, Ralph Wilson worked as an educator for the Midwest AIDS Prevention Project.
