Ty Bady

Abraham “Ty” Bady grew up in Saginaw, graduated from Buena Vista High School, and attended Ferris State University before moving to San Francisco in 1982.  Bady was active in the organization Black and White Men Together.  He died from AIDS-related complications at age 27.

Allen Robinson

Allen Robinson pic

Allen Robinson grew up in Port Huron and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War.  Robinson moved to Detroit in his early 20s, lived for a time in San Francisco, and in the early 1980s returned to Michigan, where he worked at Tiffany’s and the Interchange, and at Metra magazine as managing editor.  He died from AIDS-related complications at age 40.

Lawrence Murphy

Dean of the Wayne State University College of Lifelong Learning, Lawrence Murphy served as an institute director at Central Michigan University prior to moving to WSU.  He was the author of the book Perverts by Official Order and was survived by his partner of 13 years Russell Len Griffin.

Michael Bennett

Michael Bennet pic

June 1, 1953 – October 15, 1987

Originally from Illinois, Michael Bennett earned a B.A. in linguistics from Michigan State University in 1974 and an M.A. in linguistics from MSU in 1978.  At the time of his death, he was employed with the campus libraries.  He died of complications from AIDS at age 34.

Scott Evan Flack

From Northbrook, Illinois, Scott Flack received his B.A. in political science from Michigan State University in 1982 and earned his law degree from Rutgers University Law School in Camden in 1985.  He later worked as an AIDS lobbyist for a firm in Washington, DC.  He died of complications from AIDS at age 27.

Ben Lowery

Born in Ann Arbor, Ben Lowery graduated from Dundee High School in 1970 and earned his Bachelor’s in telecommunications from Michigan State University in 1980.  He taught school in New Mexico before returning to Michigan to work in his father’s construction business.  He died of complications from AIDS at age 34.
