December 20, 1922 – August 6, 2019

Lake Ann resident and Clare native Betty Jane Finout worked on the assembly line in Flint during World War II and earned her B.S. from Central Michigan University.  She went on to coach and teach physical education at schools in Fenton, Holly, Lake Fenton, and Owosso.  Finout enjoyed an active retirement into her 90s and was survived by two children and by longtime partner Samantha Niergarth.

September 18, 1963 – April 3, 2020

Growing up in the 1970s, Ellen Marie Rogowski of Holly was the first girl to play in a boys’ baseball league in Royal Oak.  She earned her B.A. and M.A. from Oakland University and taught middle school in Pontiac and English at Henry Ford Community College and Lewis College of Business.  She was also an accomplished musician, releasing three albums.  She and Rosemary Jozwiak shared 30 years together.

July 24, 1975 – June 25, 2018

Holly resident Steven Craig (Evans) Fischer spent his early life near Millington in rural Tuscola County and graduated from Vassar High School in 1993.  Fischer was employed with Delta Tube and Fabricating in Holly and Hairplay Designs in Fenton.  He married his husband Christopher Fischer in November 2015.

Cody Petzold

August 12, 1993 – December 26, 2014

Cody Petzold was valedictorian of his class at Holly High School in 2011 and went on to become a student leader and LGBT activist at Oakland University.  In addition to studying human resources, he served as the vice president of the campus Gay Straight Alliance and interned with the Chrysler Corporation.
