November 9, 1956 – December 16, 2020

Patricia Mae Woods, known to loved ones as “Patty Cakes,” was born in Detroit and graduated with the class of 1974 from Central High School.  She attended the Michigan Barber School and worked in area nursing homes before going into business owning and operating Woods Home Improvement.  For many years Woods attended Full Truth Fellowship Church.

Eric Jordan

Eric Jordan pic

June 20, 1965 – June 18, 1995

Originally from Nashville, Tennessee, Eric Leroy Jordan moved to Detroit following high school and became active in Men of Color, Full Truth Fellowship Church, and the James Baldwin/Pat Parker Society.  From 1993 to 1995, Jordan was employed as a case worker for the AIDS Consortium of Southeastern Michigan.  He died from AIDS-related complications at age 29, two days shy of his 30th birthday.

Brent Lewis

September 30, 1965 – May 27, 2003

Detroit native and Pershing High grad Brent O’Neal Lewis earned his B.A. from Wayne State University.  He was an early participant in Men of Color and volunteered on the promotions committee for Hotter Than July.  Lewis also helped launch HIV meal outreach through Full Truth Fellowship Church and visited hospitalized PWAs through the group Oliver Branch.  He died from AIDS-related complications at age 37.

Sylvia Robinson

Sylvia Robinson pic

October 28, 1941 – June 15, 2001

Sylvia Robinson moved to Detroit at age 10, attended Northwestern High School, and earned her MSW from Wayne State.  In 1977, she was appointed liaison to the gay community for the city’s Human Rights Department.  Robinson also co-founded the Detroit Coalition of Black Gays in 1979, served as education officer for the Michigan Organization for Human Rights, and later attended Full Truth Fellowship Church.

Garland Gillard II

October 1, 1965 – January 24, 2001

Garland Gillard II operated PC Doctor, a computer repair business, and served as minister of music for Full Truth Unity Fellowship Church in Detroit.  He died from AIDS-related complications at age 35.
