Schawne Anthony Parker grew up in Detroit, graduated from Chadsey High School in 1985, and attended General Motors Institute before completing his B.S. in chemistry at Michigan State University. He served as first president of Men of Color Motivational Group and was later executive director of the HIV/AIDS agency Center Health Outreach Workers. Parker was survived by his longtime partner Marius Padieu.
I am so pleased this post is still open after nearly nineteen years. I shared a house with Schawne in the mid nineties and we became very close friends. The guidance he gave me helped me become the better person I am today. He truly led by example and opened my eyes to the world. It may not be well known, but prior to his accomplished medical career and activism, he was an automotive engineer. He helped me put my own engineering path in perspective, and taught me that love and empathy have a place in one’s life regardless of how one makes a living. He is truly missed to this day.
